Motivations for choosing dentistry as a career among dental students in Tanzania

Objectives: Educators are interested in understanding motivations for choosing a career the dental field, especially current era when there several paths to choose from. This study aimed investigate motivating factors given by students selecting dentistry as Tanzania. Material and Methods: A questionnaire was sent 256 capture their sociodemographic characteristics possible motives career. The motive/reasons were then grouped into four domains. ANOVA test done establish an association between reasons P -value set at <0.05. Results: Out of registered students, 239 returned filled questionnaires. Opportunities work anywhere world, job financial security, opportunity with hands, getting enough time family commonly agreed dentistry. age, sex, upbringing environment had no significant mean score various domains ( >0.05). odds due professional 2 times higher among those who in-service (OR = 0.444, 95% CI 0.267, 0.739) 3 clinical years 0.292, 0.128, 0.666). vocational 0.347, 0.153, 0.786). Conclusion: main carrier included family.
